Visa and Entry Guidance
🛂 Visa & Waiver Status
1. Countries whose citizens do not need to apply for a U.S. visa under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP)
If you hold citizenship of certain countries, you may travel to the United States for short-term business or tourism (up to 90 days) without first obtaining a visa — provided you apply for and receive an approved ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) prior to departure. (Learn more)
2. Countries whose citizens do need a U.S. visa
If your country of citizenship is not on the VWP list, then you must apply in advance for the appropriate non-immigrant visa (for e.g., a B1/B2 visitor visa) at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

✅ Travel Planning Recommendations
If you are eligible under the Visa Waiver Program: apply for your ESTA well ahead of time to avoid any last-minute issues.
If you need a visa: start your visa application as early as possible. Visa interview slots, documentation requirements and processing times can vary by country and time of year. In short: allow plenty of time.
Regardless of visa status: ensure your passport meets the requirements (e.g., biometric/e‐passport if required under the VWP) and that it is valid for your travel period.
